The 22nd edition of the Airport Show is underway at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Running until 11th May, the event will witness 150 exhibitors from 20 countries showcasing the most diverse range of new aviation-related products and technologies yet – making this the world’s largest annual airport event.
Airports in the U.A.E. are famous as both a gateway to the country’s many offerings, and also a transit hub to the wider world. But they are equally renowned for being a hub of the private jet industry. Below are the most expensive private jets ever assembled:
5. The Boeing 767-33A ER – US$170 million
With a dining area that can seat 30 and gold-touched chestnut finishes, this plane would be luxurious enough to transport the entirety of Chelsea’s playing squad – which it reportedly did, given it belongs to erstwhile club owner Roman Abramovich. With a maximum speed of 850 km/h, enough fuel to fly from London to Singapore, and even an Air Force One-style anti-missile system, the jet nicknamed The Bandit warrants its price tag.
4. Boeing 747-430 – US$323 million
Owned by the Sultan of Brunei, this custom jet features solid gold washbasins, Lalique crystals and bespoke teal armchairs – interiors fit for a king. With a cruising speed of 1000 km/h and a staggering flight range of 14,000 km, the Boeing 747-430 is a large and luxurious space with state-of-the-art fittings and a variety of rooms that enable both work and relaxation.
3. Boeing 747-8 VIP – US$367 million
The third Boeing on our list and one of the largest jets in the world at 4786 sq. ft., its original price stood at a cool US$153 million before customisations took the tag to its current amount. From a wine cellar and a stateroom to a dining room and gym, it’s easy to forget this isn’t a lavish, ground-based property. Though the owner is unknown, we do know much about their tastes, given the interior design by the renowned Alberto Pinto’s firm.
2. Boeing 747-8 VIP – US$367 million
Russia’s largest private jet, the Airbus A340-300 boasts a maximum speed of 915 km/h and a range of 13,699 km – perfect for a quick jaunt from Moscow to Tokyo. Travellers can traverse the distance in style, too, with features including an exquisite dining room, seats crafted from rare leather and a host of sleeping and private quarters – amenities that together cost a whopping US$230 million.
1. Airbus A380 – Estimated at US$600 million
Given that the Airbus A380 is the largest passenger aircraft ever created, it is guaranteed to have copious space to fit a host of amenities. This particular model is thought to include everything from a marble-finished Turkish bath and an exclusive garage to a stable for horses and even a private concert space. The plane flies, too, with a 1050 km/h maximum speed and a flight range of 15,700 km.
